Resource Management

Blue Ridge resource management of fuel load

Blue Ridge NWR was established in 1982 and was first managed by Kern NWR Complex. In 2000, management of Blue Ridge NWR was transferred to Hopper Mountain NWR Complex. The refuge was acquired to protect roosting and foraging critical habitat for condors.

Since its establishment, the refuge has been closed to the public due to the sensitivity of its resources. Due to refuge's remote location and limited staffing and resources, management activities have been limited to clearing fuels and other measures to reduce fire risks at the Wildland Urban Interface.
