Canoe Tours

This FREE guided paddle explores the wildlife and natural and cultural history of the Refuge as well as a basic introduction to canoeing techniques. Each excursion lasts 2-3 hours with steady paddling. 


REGISTRATION FOR 2019 SPRING TOURS OPENS 8 A.M. CENTRAL TIME ON MONDAY, February 25, 2019. 

Tours will be on Saturdays, March 9, March 30, and April 6

These FREE canoe adventures are designed for adults, but children 5 and older may participate. All equipment and canoes are provided! Only children 10 and older may paddle. Younger children will sit in the space between the seats.

Participants should be dressed for an outdoor activity and plan on paddling for the majority of the trip — for 2-3 hours! There is no current, however occasionally you may need to paddle into the wind.

HOW TO REGISTER: Early registration requests ARE NOT accepted. AFTER REGISTRATION OPENS at 8 a.m. central time on Monday, February 25, 2019, email your tour request to joanne_dolan@fws.gov  Include the date of tour you are requesting, the full names of the individuals you would like to register, and if they are a minor their age. If you register by phone please leave the above information with an email address in order to receive confirmation and follow-up information. Registration requests will be accepted and confirmed in the order in which they are received. 

To give more people a chance to participate, first priority will be given to visitors who did not participate in a 2018 canoe tour. Such requests will be accepted but placed at the end of the waiting list.
