Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge has a thriving volunteer program. In 2018, over 300 volunteers contributed over 14,000 hours to the refuge. However, new volunteers are needed every year to help us fulfill our mission. You can be a part of something great!

Close to 42,000 volunteers contribute in excess of 1.5 million hours of their time and ideas each year to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Whether they work on the land, in a visitor center or with youth, they contribute to the conservation mission that reaches back more than a century.

Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee NWR is supported by over 300 wonderful volunteers that have given over 14,000 hours of service in 2018. With their help, they have filled in the gaps of over 6 full time employees! Become a volunteer at the refuge today to help conserve and protect our nations' wildlife and teach thousands of visitors that their actions today determine the conservation legacy of tomorrow.

Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteer opportunities on the refuge range from one-day stewardship projects to a regular commitment to help staff with different duties. Volunteers can help the refuge in the following disciplines:

Visitor Center Front Desk: Front desk volunteers welcome visitors the refuge. They answer questions, provide maps, relay recent wildlife sightings, and help orient visitors to the refuge.

Environmental Education/Interpretation: Work with school groups and deliver interpretive programs.

Administration: Answer incoming telephone calls and do minor administrative work.

Roving Interpreter: Interact with visitors on the drive and trails. Provide information on other recreational activities available on the refuge and surrounding area.

Maintenance: Maintain refuge lands, trails, facilities, and equipment.

Biology: Work with the biology staff on a myriad of projects from migratory bird monitoring, data collection, water quality, and exotic species removal from the refuge.
