Refuge Entrance

Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge has long been home to a vast array of waterfowl, songbirds, fish, shellfish, and many other animals. It's intricate network of marshes, tidal creeks, uplands and wetlands has supported a myriad of plants as well as wildlife.

From Hwy. 17, take SC 174 (Signs will read "Edisto Beach" and "Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge"). Stay on SC 174 through Adams Run (174 will make a right turn in Adams Run). At the intersection with the flashing light (Signs will read "Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge"), turn right on to Willtown Road. Go approximately 2 miles, entrance road will be on the left (signs will read "Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge"). Office is located in the Plantation House approximately 2 miles down gravel road. 



The refuge grounds are open from sunrise to sunset, daily.  The Administration Office is generally open Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. After 4 pm, on weekends, and when the gate is closed, please park outside the gate and walk in, unless there is a sign stating the refuge is closed.

Brochures, maps, and Refuge Video are located on the ground floor of the Plantation House. Our business offices are on the 2nd floor of the plantation house.  

Know Before You Go:

Bring plenty of bug spray for mosquitoes and biting flies. 

Grove Plantation House and White Gate close at 4 PM. Visitors can stay on the grounds until sunset, but cars need to be parked outside the gate by 4 PM.
