The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Parks and Recreation (Michigan PAR), is seeking public comment on a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) regarding the Peshawbestown Marina proposed boating development. The purpose of the document is to look at the feasibility and potential for environmental consequences associated with the alternatives considered. Public comments will be accepted for a 30-day period which ends October 16, 2015.
The proposed marina project will consist of constructing the following:
- Approximately 106 watercraft slips sheltered by stone breakwalls
- Fishing platforms will be constructed along the north and south piers
- Beach access will be provided by access paths
- Access drive and parking will be constructed, as well as associated utilities and other improvements
- Harbormaster building will be constructed and it is also anticipated that a fuel dock with pump out will be available
The marina is expected to provide recreation access to the boating public and contribute to economic development and growth.
The EA was prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) which applies to the actions of all federal agencies. This project is proposed by the Michigan PAR funded through the Boating Infrastructure Grant Program, administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
