Subject: Workplace Violence Policy

It is the Department of the Interior's policy to promote a safe environment for its employees.  At
the core of this workplace violence policy is the Department's commitment to work with its
employees to maintain a work environment free from violence, threats of violence, harassment,
intimidation, and other disruptive behavior.

Violence, threats of violence, harassment, intimidation, and other disruptive behavior in our
workplace will not be tolerated.  Such behavior can include oral or written statements, gestures,
or expressions that communicate a direct or indirect threat of physical harm.  Any reports of
such behavior will  be taken seriously and will be dealt with appropriately.  Individuals who
commit such acts may be removed from the premises and face appropriate disciplinary and/or
criminal penalties.

We all need to cooperate to implement this policy effectively and to maintain a safe working
environment.  Do not ignore violent, threatening, harassing, intimidating, or other disruptive
behavior. If you observe or experience such behavior, report it immediately to a supervisor
or manager.  If there is a threat or assault requiring immediate attention, security or law
enforcement should be contacted immediately.

I will support all appropriate efforts by Departmental personnel in dealing with violent,
threatening, intimidating, harassing, or other disruptive behavior in our workplace, and
will take necessary steps to ensure that this policy is implemented effectively.  Questions
about this policy should be directed to your supervisor, servicing personnel office and/or
security and law enforcement office.  Additionally, your Employee Assistance Program
can be a valuable resource for further information and assistance.
