Information on Attending the Ae‘o (Hawaiian Stilt) Virtual Public Meeting and Hearing

  • The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) has scheduled a virtual public meeting to give the public an opportunity to learn more about the proposed reclassification of the ae‘o (Hawaiian stilt) from endangered to threatened status and the associated proposed 4(d) rule. The Service will hold the virtual public meeting and hearing via the Zoom online platform so that participants can attend remotely.

The virtual public meeting is scheduled for July 7, 2021, from 5:00 - 8:00pm Hawaii Time (HST). The virtual public meeting will consist of a public informational meeting from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. HST, followed by a public hearing from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. HT.

During the virtual public meeting, attendees can join by computer or phone to learn about the proposed downlisting. The virtual public meeting will start with a brief presentation by Service staff followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

Formal public comments may be submitted and will be recorded during the public hearing portion of the meeting (6:00 - 8:00 p.m. HT). Commenters may have an allotted time period to provide comments, and the order of commenters will be based on meeting registration. In addition, during the open comment period, written public comments can be submitted to us through the Federal eRulemaking Portal at http://www.regulations.gov, under Docket No. FWS-R1-ES-2020-0079, or via U.S. mail to: Public Comments Processing, Attn: FWS-R1-ES-2020-0079 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, MS: BPHC, 5275 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22041-3803.

We recommend that members of the public log into the Zoom meeting platform 5 minutes prior to the beginning of the meeting to ensure that they can connect. If using the phone-only option, participants will be able to listen to the virtual public meeting, but they will not view the presentation. Instructions will be given regarding how participants will be able to provide their comments.
