Conservation Education, Interpretation, and Outreach

Welcome

Our Outreach and Education programs create and present high quality education and information for the public, to share the cultural significance of fish to the peoples of the west. People of all ages are excited and eager to learn about nature. Learning is not limited to children, classrooms and books. Teachers are finding that our fish biologists, fish culturists, and managers are unlocking the gates and opening their doors to learning about our aquatic resources. Our "Information and Education" programs are assisting educators in meeting their required state environmental education mandates.

Featured project: Elwha River Recovery Curriculum

How are fish moving in a free-flowing Elwha River? This curriculum allows participants the opportunity to step into the shoes of scientists studying the response to the world's largest dam removal project. Use Google's free My Maps program and real-world fish tracking (radio telemetry) data to follow the migrations of Chinook Salmon, Steelhead, Pacific Lamprey, and Bull Trout.

Target grades: middle (7th and 8th grade) through high-school students.
