Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge will play a key role in providing wildlife habitat restoration and additional acres available for the hunting public to help achieve some of the settlement goals announced today in regards to the Tittabawassee River Natural Resource Damage and Assessment.  The Federal, state and tribal governments, acting on behalf of the public as natural resource trustees (Trustees), have reached a settlement for natural resources as the result of past releases of hazardous substances from The Dow Chemical Company’s (Dow) manufacturing facility in Midland, Michigan.
