California Coastal Cleanup Day

Join thousands of people around the world to help keep our coastal habitat clean and healthy for all!

Is Earth Day 2020 too far away and you want to make a difference? Do you want to help wildlife and the environment? Volunteer at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge on Coastal Cleanup Day, Saturday, September 21st from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

You can either remove invasive weeds or pick up trash along the parking lot and trails. Gloves, trash and recycling bags, and safety equipment will be provided. Make sure to bring sturdy shoes, sun protection, and clothes you do not mind getting dirty. Bring a reuseable water bottle.

You can show up the day of the event - no reservations are required. However, each volunteer must register by filling out a volunteer form. To expedite registration, you can download an individual volunteer form or a group volunteer form (if you are registering for multiple people). Then you can print them out and bring them the day of the event. Forms will also be available at the registration table. Children under age 18 must have parental approval.  The forms require Adobe Acrobat Reader.

We will meet in the vicinity of the fishing pier at the end of Marshlands Road in Fremont, CA. The target area of the cleanup and weed pulling will be the Shoreline Trail and the fishing pier. Some volunteers will be shuttled to areas along the shoreline Trail as long as the levee road is not wet. Most volunteers will work closer to the fishing pier near the parking lot or they will walk on their own to other assigned areas.
