The refuge offers archery, limited and open muzzleloader, and limited and open shotgun hunts as well as special disabled and youth hunt opportunities for both white-tailed deer and sika deer.


Hunters are now required to apply online or by phone for the refuge deer hunt. Applications will no longer be mailed. The new application for the deer hunt is located at . Hunters apply directly on the website or by calling the customer service number, 877-444-6777. Hunters are required to have a signed permit in hand while hunting or scouting on the refuge.

Hunting at Blackwater is on a first come, first serve basis. There is no standby.

The 2019-20 deer hunt has ended. The information posted below is for reference only; dates and some regulations will change for the 2020-21 deer season. Hunters have until February 9, 2020 to collect their deer stands from the refuge.
