YCC is a balanced work/learn/earn program that develops an understanding and appreciation of the Nation’s environment and heritage.  Crewmembers will work with Refuge staff and volunteers on a variety of biological, maintenance, and visitor services projects based at the Refuge’s Lost Mound Unit (the former Savanna Army Depot), located 8 miles north of Savanna.  The program also presents an early opportunity to explore a career in natural resources.

Teen students interested in being considered for the crew must complete a YCC application form. Applications can also be picked up at the West Carroll High School Secretary’s Office, the River Ridge High School Counselor’s Office, or the FWS Savanna District Office, located at 7071 Riverview Road, Thomson, IL 61285.  Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Completed applications must be received at the Refuge Office by 3:30 PM Friday, April 12, 2019.  Applicants will be selected by random draw on Monday, April 15, and successful candidates will be notified immediately.
