Hurricane Florence - Refuge Closure and Information

Effective Tuesday, September 11, Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin NWR will be closed in preparation for the landfall of Hurricane Florence. This includes the Edisto and Combahee Units, Grove Plantation (refuge headquarters), and all visitor facilities. Recreational use, including hiking and paddling trails, will be closed as well. Once a closure is in effect, it will remain in place until the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service assesses storm damage or the threat of Hurricane Florence has passed.

A safety assessment will be conducted post-storm. The refuge will re-open as soon as it is practically possible and safe to do so. Further announcements will be made at that time.
