Warblers and Wildflowers

Thursdays at 8:00am in April and May
troutlilly The birds are singing and flowers are blooming! Spring is a wonderful time to get out and explore the woods.  Join us on Thursdays at 8 am in April and May for a walk around the refuge nature trail to look for birds and wildflowers!

Refuge staff will lead a nature walk that will last approximately 1-1.5 hours and travel around a 1 mile trail that starts and ends at the Refuge Headquarters.  The trail heads down the bluff, follows Muscatine Slough and then comes back up the river bluff.  

The hikes are weather-dependent.  Please call the refuge (309-791-1612) to confirm that the hike has not been cancelled due to inclement weather. 

When: Thursday in April and May at 8 am (Hikes will be CANCELLED in the event of inclement weather!)

Where: Port Louisa NWR Headquarters, 10728 County Road X61, Wapello, IA 52653

Who: All are welcome! We will have binoculars available for use on the hike.

Cost: Free and reservations are NOT necessary

The nature trail loop that we will be walking on is not paved and does include uneven terrain that can be muddy in the spring.  In addition we will be walking down and back up the river bluff, and portions of the trail are steep and narrow.  Please call if you have questions: (309-791-1612).
