ALERT- DeHoog Road Closed!

2017/18 DeHoog Road Enhancement Project

Part of DeHoog Road is now closed and work to raise the elevation of a three-mile section of the road is in progress.  The project will take several months to complete and we may not be able to reopen that section of DeHoog until the Spring of 2018.  Evans Road and the D-15 headland road (which connects Evans and DeHoog Roads on the south side of the Refuge) will be opened to vehicles as an alternative route WHEN CONDITIONS ALLOW.  These sections of road are not rocked and can become impassible when wet or when certain other conditions arise.  Refuge access from NC Highway 45 (via Smithwick, Gall, and DeHoog Roads) is still authorized and vehicles are still allowed on DeHoog Road from Shore Drive to the D8 headland road intersection (about four miles).  Contact the Refuge at 252-796-3004 extension 226 if you need more information.
