Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge Youth and Senior Lottery Waterfowl Hunt Area changed to Experimental Youth and Senior Walk-in Hunt Area


Beginning this fall Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge’s Unit B, former lottery waterfowl hunt area, is now open as an experimental youth and senior walk-in waterfowl hunt area.  It will be available for hunting during the September Teal season and the Louisiana Coastal zone duck and coot season on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.  All refuge waterfowl hunt regulations apply.  All hunt parties must include at least one youth or senior participant. Hunt party members must be within normal audible voice contact and in direct line of sight of each other.  Seniors are defined as adults 55 years of age and older; youth are defined as individuals 17 years of age or younger. Parking is available along Mermentau River Road (see map in hunt brochure) and designated refuge parking areas.  Only vehicles without trailers are permitted.  ATV use and blocking gates and driveways are prohibited.  Hand carried, hand launched non-motorized watercraft may be used.

 

The 2017-18 Southwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Complex Hunting Regulation Permit is available to download and print from our website at: https://www.fws.gov/refuge/lacassine by clicking on the ‘About the Refuge’ link, then the ‘Publications’ link, then scrolling down to the section titled Southwest Louisiana Hunting Permit and clicking on the blue highlighted text “Southwest Louisiana Hunting Permit”.   A limited supply of hard copy regulation permit brochures may be obtained from Sabine NWR office, Lacassine NWR office, the Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries office in Lake Charles, Academy Sports and Outdoors in Lake Charles, Walmart Sporting Goods section in Sulphur, Cajun Grocery in Hayes, Gary’s Landing in Lowry, Cajun Fast Mart and Fisherman’s Headquarters in Carlyss, and Brown’s Grocery in Hackberry while supplies last.

Migratory Bird Hunt Report Forms and Unit B hunt area maps will be available online from the Home page under the News Release link by clicking on the Lacassine Refuge Experimental Youth and Senior Walk-in Hunt.  Some hard copy regulation permit brochures, Migratory Bird Hunt Report Forms and Unit B Hunt Area Maps will be available in the Refuge’s Streeter Road Hunt Kiosk while supplies last.
