Draft Mosquito Management Plan and Environmental Assessment Released

Westbrook, CT - The United States Fish and Wildlife Service has released a proposed Mosquito Management Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Great Meadows Unit of the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge in Stratford, CT. The proposed action is to establish a procedure to control the mosquito population to protect public health. The preferred alternative calls for an integrated pest management approach which includes public education, surveillance, elimination of human-made breeding sites, use of pesticides and restoration of mosquito breeding areas to natural hydrology.

 A 30 day public comment period ended September 2nd, but the public are invited to read the draft plan at the link above.
