Family Fishing Festival April 8, 2017 Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge(1)


The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the Friends of the Southwest Louisiana National Wildlife Refuge Complex and Wetlands are working with numerous partners and volunteers to host our 3rd Annual Family Fishing Festival on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Refuge.   All participants 16 years of age and older will require a Basic Louisiana Fishing license to participate.  All state fishing regulations will apply.

 

Participants will have an opportunity to fish for bass and/or catfish from three ponds covering 6.5 acres which are only open to fishing during this event.  There will also be numerous activities and demonstrations throughout the morning.   The first 200 registered guests will receive gift bags, including a commemorative Festival golf towel with the event logo.  Coke, water, Gatorade, hot dogs, and chips will be provided by sponsors.

 

Loaner fishing poles available for check out on a first come first served basis.  Bait worms will be available while supplies last.  Participants are encouraged to bring supplies such as fishing gear, bait, lawn chairs, coolers with ice for fish, sunscreen, water, bug repellent, and wagons or carts to transport gear from parking area to fishing area. Registration and entry to the fishing festival grounds will begin Saturday morning at 9:00 am.  Early birds will have to wait in the parking area until registration begins at 9:00.

 

Parking will be available in the Cameron Prairie Visitor Center parking lot, located on Highway 27, eleven miles south of Holmwood.  The Festival grounds are located west of the parking area and can be accessed by walking.  Wagons and carts are encouraged to assist with transporting personal and fishing gear from the parking lot to the festival grounds. Parking attendants and signs will guide participants to registration and the fishing ponds.
