North Gate

Refuge North Gate will be open one hour before the Helen C. Fenske Visitor Center opening at 10 am.  When the north gate is  closed, visitors will not be able to drive through Pleasant Plains Road.  Visitors can still access the Refuge via the South Gate entrance, which remains open sunrise to sunset on a daily basis. The North Gate closes at 4:30 pm.

Refuge Roads and Trails

Refuge roads and trails are subject to snowy and icy conditions.  Snow and ice are not cleared from trails and boardwalks in the winter.  Refuge roads and parking areas are plowed as soon as possible after snow storms; however, there may be a delay.  Please be aware, limited salt is used on Refuge roads and in some parking areas to protect sensitive wildlife.  At times with heavy snowfall, the Wildlife Observation Center may also have a delayed opening or be closed to allow for snow removal.

Please adhere to any travel warnings or restrictions, and stay safe!
