Family fishing during Kids Fishing Day

Quivira has several annual events, offering something for everyone.  All events are for the whole family, and all are free of charge!

  • North American Migration Count

    Eared Grebe swimming

    Several activities, such as guided walks and tours, are planned for this year.  A come-and-go-as-you-please event for all ages, you can attend activities or simply visit to view and report your birds.  It is usually the second Saturday in May.  It's a good way to see a large variety of birds - usually over 140 species!

  • Kid's Fishing Day

    Channel Catfish caught during Kids Fishing Day

    Combining learning, fishing, and a great outdoor experience, Kid's Fishing Day is always the first Saturday in June, running from 9 am to noon.  Lunch is provided!

  • Monarch Mania

    Monarch Butterfly male

    Come and help Refuge staff and volunteers capture and tag Monarch Butterflies!  Other activities include a Butterfly Pavilion with live butterflies, crafts, refreshments, and face-painting.  Held on a Saturday morning in mid-September.
