Open Water

Paddling in the fog

Fog imparts visual poetry to the lake, evoking both ethereal beauty and hidden treasures.  It's hard to get lost on this small lake, even in dense fog, and the sound of traffic on the main road will always guide you back to where you started.

After the intimacy of the cypress forest, the open water may seem a little intimidating to a paddler, but it only takes a few minutes to reach shallow water.  State Highway 122 runs along the north side, which is also rimmed with cabins and fishing piers.  Beyond the lake are marshes and private lands, including Moody Air Force Base.
