National Public Lands Day & International Coastal CleanupSaturday, September 24, 2016
On Saturday, September 24 Back Bay NWR will host our annual beach cleanup to celebrate National Public Lands Day. This cleanup is also part of the International Coastal Cleanup - a coalition of people from all around the world that clean their local beaches and provide data on the types of trash they find. Come be a part of this event! Following the beach cleanup a free fishing clinic will be held on the Refuge beach.
National Public Lands Day is a day to celebrate our nation's public lands. There is no fee at federal lands this day and many refuges, parks and forests host community service events to celebrate the day.
The International Coastal Cleanup
is a special event each year where teams all over the WORLD pull together to clean up the coast. Each team is crucial to this project. Data is collected about the types and amounts of trash collected. This information is pulled together and used to try create solutions to finding a way to decrease trash from these sources.
