Location: Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge located approximately 15 miles south of Starkville, Mississippi.

Description: The number of internships available (1-2) varies with the seasons. Each student will be expected to work 40 hours/week. Each student is responsible for arrangements with his/her school/university for the availability of college credits. Refuge will work with the student to develop a special project to fulfill internship credits.

Responsibilities: Each student will be responsible to assist the refuge biologist with activities associated with the normal operation of a wildlife management program. This will include, but will not be limited to, endangered red-cockaded woodpecker management, wood duck management, wildlife inventory, geographic information system data collection, wildlife research data collection, and hunter check station operation.

On-going Projects: Intensive monitoring and banding of the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, wood duck hen and duckling telemetry study, completion of geographic information system coverage of the refuge, and floristic surveys.

Qualifications: Senior or junior status in the wildlife or related biological sciences. Students must be willing and able to work independently. Persons with experience in GIS (arcview) and good computer skills are highly desired.

Starting Date: Will work with student for placement times, spring/summer and fall offer the greatest variety of wildlife management opportunities.

Salary and Benefits: $100.00/week stipend. Free housing and utilities provided if student(s) resides on refuge property.
