2011 Career Discovery Internship Program

Gwendolyn Courtney Cary

My name is Gwendolyn Courtney Cary, but everyone knows me as Courtney. I was born in Campsprings, Maryland on Andrews Air Force Base. I was a military child so I had the opportunity to live in many different places such as Hawaii. Living in Hawaii made me realize how beautiful and important nature is and I knew when I grew up I wanted to be surrounded by the beauty of nature all the time and do anything to protect it. I am currently a rising senior at Old Dominion University and I am majoring in Geology. In my spare time I enjoy volunteering at my church, playing tennis, listening to music, cooking, and watching movies. I applied for the CDIP internship because my professor encouraged me to try something new and take a chance at something I have never experienced. I want this experience to give me an idea of what I would like to do in life,   meet people in different areas of the USFWS, and to better understand the different careers. My ultimate goal in whatever I decide to do is to help people understand why nature is so important and to enjoy it as much as possible.
