2011 Career Discovery Internship Program

Alyssa Rooks

My name is Aylssa Rooks; I grew up in Fayetteville/Tyrone, Ga. These areas influenced my experience with nature. I was exposed to both country settings as well as a city-like environment. Fayette County is more like a half city, half county setting, which is essential for almost any diverse career. I graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 2010, and now attend Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. I am majoring in English with a concentration in Public Relations but also plan to take courses in education for alternate career options. In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching movies, cooking, running, spending time with loved ones and serving my community at large. What interested me and led to my applying for the CDIP internship was the unique opportunity to work in conservation while exploring career paths. I hope to gain more insight within conservation and possibly a career within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services. My future goals within college are to continue interning and working through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or other areas of conservation until after my schooling is complete. After my career goals include graduating from Spelman and going onto graduate school to earn a degree in Public Relations or Education of Environmental Studies. Hopefully I will be able to work within a conservation outreach program through external affairs or through the education and interpretation realms.
