Partner with a Payer

black bear monitoring project.

Partner with a Payer is a national initiative designed to strengthen partnerships and increase collaboration and understanding among the USFWS, state fish and wildlife agencies, and manufacturers who either pay excise taxes on firearms, archery, and angling equipment, or support the motor boat fuel tax by the products they manufacture. This initiative increases manufacturers' awareness of excise tax funded projects and allows state and federal staff to better understand the role of manufacturers in the support of national conservation funding.

As part of this initiative, two types of events are held to support this important partnership: field tours and facility tours. Field tours invite industry representatives to unforgettable in-the-field experiences that illustrate the importance of the conservation funds that make fish and wildlife research, habitat conservation, shooting facilities, fish hatcheries and stocking, hunter and aquatic education, and public access to lands and waters possible. Facility tours invite state fish and wildlife agency representatives to industry facilities to learn about the processes that manufacturers use to make the products that are taxed and result in a critical funding source for state fish and wildlife agency conservation work.

Partnering with the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA) and the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) created this short (2 minute) cinematic video, which highlights how the partnerships among industry, state fish and wildlife agencies and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have aided sport fish restoration and conservation and increased angling and boating opportunities nationwide. The film creates awareness of these Sport Fish Restoration Program partnerships and the opportunities for anglers and boaters funded by excise taxes on angling equipment and motorboat fuel. This film is a product of the Partner with a PayerSM initiative.
