Information Bulletin: Rose Bay Canal Boat Launch Remains Temporarily Closed on Lake Mattamuskeet

Caption: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today that the Rose Bay Canal boat launch will remain closed until fallen trees from storm events are cleared. Approximately 26 large tress have fallen across the Rose Bay canal that enters Lake Mattamuskeet. A contractor will be on site in March to begin removing the trees and restoring access to the lake. Once the trees are cleared, the Service will announce that the boat launch is open to the public. All other launches will open as planned on March 1.The Service intends to open the Rose Bay Canal boat launch as soon as safely possible and appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during the completion of this project.

Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge is one of nine national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex. Mattamuskeet Visitor Center, located on the refuge's main entrance road in Hyde County, NC, is open 8 am to 4 pm whenever volunteer staffing is available.  For more information, visit the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge web page.
