Caption: This young Wood Stork was recently photographed in Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Not a common sight on the refuge, it's a good day when you have an opportunity to spot an unexpected bird. They mostly feed on crustaceans, fish, reptiles & amphibians.
Visit your national wildlife refuges and see what wildlife (plants and animals) you'll discover!
Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is one of six national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex. Pocosin Lakes Visitor Center, located in Columbia, NC, is open 9am to 4pm whenever volunteer staffing is available.
