Caption: One of nature's most beautiful butterflies is the Zebra Swallowtail. Photographed on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge,
this butterfly feeds on nectar from a variety of flowers, such as verbena, redbud, milkweed & buttonbush. In the caterpillar stage they live and feed almost exclusively on the leaves of the pawpaw tree.

Visit your national wildlife refuges and see what wildlife (plant and animal) you can discover!

Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is one of six national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex. Pocosin Lakes Visitor Center, located in Columbia, NC, is open 9am to 4pm whenever volunteer staffing is available
