Caption: Here, shown at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, a Great Horned Owl is perched watching the photographer. The Great Horned Owl is an amazing hunter. It feeds mostly on rodents (mice), rabbits & frogs but can also overpower falcons, Osprey and other owls. It has excellent hearing and night vision. And it really know how to get around, the Great Horn's head turns more than 180 degrees, allowing it to see totally around.
Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is one of six national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex. Pocosin Lakes Visitor Center, located in Columbia, NC, is open 9am to 4pm whenever volunteer staffing is available.
