Photo Release: Hummingbirds - Gorgeous Amazing Flyers
Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge

Caption: It's still warm enough to see hummingbirds feeding on a variety of flowering plants. And studies have shown that seeing hummingbirds in North Carolina during months which are normally colder is becoming more common. With their wings beating around 55 times a second, these gorgeous tiny birds can hover, fly backwards and dart around a forest & field faster than we can often visually follow.

Visit your national wildlife refuges and see what wildlife (plants and animals) you'll discover!

Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is one of six national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex. Pocosin Lakes Visitor Center, located in Columbia, NC, is open 9am to 4pm whenever volunteer staffing is available.
