Peer Review - Ensuring Credibility of Information

To improve the quality and objectivity of the scientific information we use to make decisions, the Fish and Wildlife Service have implement a structured peer review process for influential scientific information and highly influential scientific assessments, per OMB's bulletin on peer review. These is an additional policy covering peer review of Endangered Species Act activities. See the Service's National Peer Review website for additional information.

Whooping Crane

A total of fifty-eight comments were received from the public as a result of the posting of the peer review plan. The majority of the comments were about the project and what data was used in our analysis and did not address the peer review plan. Of the comments received, only one included specific comments to the actual peer review approach and process details. After considering these comments, no changes were made to peer review plan approach suggested by the USFWS Science Integrity Officer.
