This multi-agency land exchange project involves the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management (lead agency), National Park Service, and Colorado State Land Board. An environmental assessment documents the analysis.
The project will do the following:
Baca National Wildlife Refuge is located in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado, within Alamosa and Saguache counties.
With a mix of wet meadows, playas, grasslands, shrub lands, and riparian woodlands, the refuge is home to a variety of birds including waterfowl, shorebirds, and waterbirds. In addition, elk and pronghorn are common throughout the refuge.
