Final Environmental Assessment for Proposed Ring-necked Pheasant and Wild Turkey Hunting on DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge

The final Environmental Assessment (EA) for deciding whether to allow pheasant and turkey hunting on the Refuge was approved on January 14, 2003.  The Preferred Alternative was selected which is to allow for a limited controlled hunt for the two species on the Refuge.  This alternative would allow a limited number of hunters to hunt on specific dates and with restricted sites for hunting.

A second Alternative that was considered was to open hunting to all legal hunters and with no additional restrictions regarding time or location other than the state requirements.   The third Alternative considered is the "No Action" Alternative required under NEPA that would have continued to not allow hunting of pheasants and turkeys on the Refuge.
