Fall’s Fast Approach Brings Time To
Enjoy the Fruits of Our Labors

For me, September brings back the great feelings of getting back into the field for hunting. I recently got the decoys back out and dusted them off for this year’s adventures with resident goose leading into duck and goose seasons. This is one of the greatest times of year in the Midwest and one where we can all enjoy the fruits of our labor over the busy season we’re wrapping up.

And as we say goodbye to our summer interns and see that we have a lot left to focus on, I applaud the great work and safe work you’ve completed and ask everyone to remain just as vigilant in safely navigating our Fall season tasks, both at work and in our home life.

In recent weeks we’ve been involved in a lot of pollinator activity, and I’m pleased to see the congressional interest in those efforts as well. There’s undoubtedly high-level support and interest in the work we do. For example, we recently hosted Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar for a monarch event, joined also by Service Director Dan Ashe. We also gathered with our partners celebrating the St. Croix Watershed pollinator partnership, which was attended by Minnesota Congresswoman Betty McCollum, among a list of distinguished guests. Read more. It’s heart-warming to see this level of interest in the important work each of you does on a day-to-day basis. I thank you for this tremendous and ongoing effort.

Not to be outdone, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge also played host to a celebration of the Every Kid In A Park program, which included guest Michael Bean, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks. Ninety partner school students attended the event as we continue to reach out to our next generation of conservationists. Read more.

Congratulations to the latest selectees for both the Advanced Leadership Development Program and Stepping Up To Leadership. Although this added training takes each of you away from home and family for extended periods, I hope you will come to see the value added for both you and your family in return for your efforts is worthwhile. We grow great leaders through education, experience, mentorship, and association with our cadre of first-rate professionals throughout the organization. This year’s deserving classes for both programs will continue that tradition. Read more.

Have a safe and pleasant September and enjoy this month’s issue of Inside Region 3!
