Habitat Conservation Plans In Development

Wildcat Wind Farm in Indiana

Indiana Bat and Northern Long-eared Bat

2 wind turbines

Wildcat Wind Farm, LLC has received an incidental take permit for the Wildcat Wind Farm in Tipton and Madison counties, Indiana. Incidental take permits can be issued under the Endangered Species Act for the incidental take of listed species, provided that all take is avoided, minimized and mitigated. The incidental take permit authorizes take of two federally listed bats during operation of the wind farm: Indiana bats, an endangered species, and northern long-eared bat, a threatened species.

The Endangered Species Act requires a Habitat Conservation Plan before an incidental take permit can be issued. The HCP specifies, among other things, the impacts that are likely to result from taking Indiana bats and northern long-eared bats and the measures that will be taken to minimize and mitigate those impacts.

The Wildcat Wind Farm is located in central Indiana, north of the town of Elwood. The wind farm has 125 wind turbines, turbine pads, and an operations and maintenance building, access roads, collector line system, switching station meteorological towners, and a substation.
