On August 9, 2007, the bald eagle was removed from the federal list of threatened and endangered species. For information about bald eagles and their recovery, please go to the Midwest Bald Eagle Website.

Eagle Permits

The bald eagle continues to be protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Regulations provided under that Act allow the Service to issue permits for activities that may harm or disturb bald eagles and their nests. Below is link to information about those permits and a link to information about Bald Eagles.

Eagle Sightings Near Roadways - Observation Submission Form

Bald eagle mortality due to vehicular collisions in Michigan has risen in the last six years, accounting for 29 percent of recorded eagle mortalities between 1987 and 2008. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is cooperating with the Federal Highways Administration, the Michigan Department of Transportation, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to reduce this mortality and save eagles.

If you have observed an eagle (or eagles), either dead or alive, on the ground or scavenging on road-kill near a roadway in Michigan, please submit your observation using this form.
