The Torch Award is our region’s opportunity to recognize an individual who demonstrates commitment and dedication in such a way that it inspires others. This year, I am proud to announce that Fire Management Specialist Jared Culbertson from the Litchfield Wetland Management District is the recipient of the 2018 Torch Award for his outstanding work.

Culbertson was selected from a number of quality nominations for exceeding all four criteria of the award. As stated in his nomination, “He pitches in wherever we need him and often without being asked. He is a real team player.” Culbertson’s nomination also goes on to say that he “established relationships that allow for effective communication and ensures that we’re not only working to accomplish our priorities, we’re also assisting our partners in achieving a broader overall conservation mission.”

I would also like to thank each of you who took the time and thought to submit a nomination. We are fortunate to serve with a broad scope of many talented, dedicated people. That was evident by the record number of nominations we had this year. While this made the selection of any one person a challenge, it was a strong reflection of the overall quality and professionalism of all those involved in fire management. This was truly inspiring! Please join me in congratulating Jared for this much deserved award and a job well done!
