Tribal President Amos Philemonof holds stones carried from the site of the Funter Bay Internment Camp to be placed at a memorial on St. Paul Island, part of Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. At the outset of the Aleutian Islands campaign in World War II, 800 native Unangan were removed and interned in squalid camps from 1942 through 1945.
