Question: This might sound like a funny question, but is it hard to find a white bear on white ice and snow.

Answer (Scott Schliebe) (Laughing): It is, it is difficult to find a white bear on a white background. And when we do aerial surveys, we often look for signs of polar bears--tracks in the snow. We look for areas where they would prefer to use like these cracks where the leads are where they hunt. And then we also look for movement-- if we see any movement while we're flying--that's one way we detect them. And then, actually you develop what they call a "site picture." You're looking for a certain type of site a polar bear image while you're flying and with training and experience you become fairly good at finding polar bears on that white background. That doesn't mean that we don't miss them - they are difficult to see for sure.
