Salt marshes are found in tidal areas near the coast, where freshwater mixes with saltwater.
Learn more about salt marsh of Plum Island! Refuge staff will lead a walking tour of the salt marsh at the southern end of the refuge, while discussing the ecology, history, and ongoing restoration efforts in this unique ecosystem.
This program will start at the Refuge Visitor Center. We will convene to talk about our schedule and grab any necessary equipment before driving to the refuge. Participants are welcome to drive themselves, or accompany staff in a refuge vehicle. Warm weather gear is highly recommended, as we will be outdoors for the majority of this program. Waterproof boots that cover to the ankle or higher are also recommended for walking out the in marsh. We have a limited number of boots available to borrow upon request.
