Join Sam DeJarnett, host of the “Always Be Birdin’” podcast, as she partners with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to launch a new monthly series of guided excursions through natural areas in and around Portland. The new series, Flocking to Nature: Birdin’ Around PDX, launches May 25.
DeJarnett and the Service’s Pacific Region Migratory Bird Program designed the yearlong series to help non-birding and beginning birders of color explore nature in a safe, accessible, welcoming environment. These outings will occur on the last Saturdays of the month at various natural areas in and around the Portland metropolitan area.
The first outing lands just in time for Black Birders Week, May 26-June 1. Binoculars will be provided, and we suggest participants dress appropriately for the day’s weather forecast. Families are welcome.
Here are the details for first four excursions:
Meet under the gazebo visible from the parking lot.
Meet under pavilion visible from parking lot.
Meet at the restroom building near the large parking lot.
- Aug. 31, 9 am-11 am: Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge driving tour, City of Ridgefield Dog Park, 1035-14285 S. Hillhurst Road, Ridgefield, Washington
