Borrow our snowshoes, or bring your own, and join us for this fun-filled, drop-in event on Saturday, February 18 from 1 pm to 4 pm! The refuge will provide adult and child size snowshoes to use while exploring the oak savanna and prairie habitats. Snowshoeing is easy to learn and our refuge volunteers will assist you. Hike on your own or attend a volunteer-led guided hike at 1:30 pm or 3 pm*. When you're not on the trails exploring, there will be a bonfire so participants can gather for warmth and fellowship. Inside the Oak Savanna Learning Center you will have the opportunity to learn about modern and traditional snowshoes, get an up close look at animal artifacts including pelts, shells and taxidermy and work on a nature craft to take home!
In the event of inadequate snow levels, the event will be cancelled.
