Solanum conocarpum, Marrón bacora

Petition Finding

The U. S. Fish and Wildlife has determined that listing the shrub Solanum conocarpum, known as Marrón bacora, as a threatened or endangered species is warranted under the Endangered Species Act, but that listing is precluded by other higher priority species.  The “warranted but precluded” finding was published in the Federal Register on February 22, 2011.  The shrub  Marrón bacora now is designated as a candidate species.

Double Bracket: The Solanum family includes species cultivated worldwide such as potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant. The word Solano translates into, easterly winds or nightshade. Solano, o Solanum in latín, es el género de plantas perteneciente a la familia de las solanáceas. Contiene tres especies cultivadas a nivel mundial: la papa, el tomate y la berenjena. La palabra solano también significa viento que sopla de donde nace el Sol. Federal Register 12- Month Finding (pdf)
