bass pro shops hosts first day of sale event
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Assistant Director for Migratory Birds Jerome Ford bought the first 2016-2017 Federal and Junior Duck Stamps as the new issue of these conservation and education stamps went on sale June 24 at the Bass Pro Shops Headquarters Store in Springfield, Mo.
The 83rd Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, chosen last September from among 157 entries, depicts a pair of trumpeter swans in flight, painted by Joseph Hautman of Plymouth, Minn. Proceeds from Duck Stamp sales fund wetland acquisition and conservation easements for the National Wildlife Refuge System.
Stacy Shen, 16, of Fremont, Calif, took top honors at the 2016 Junior Duck Stamp Contest in April. The stamp featuring her art will raise funds for environmental education programs.
