Southern Cone Grasslands Alliance Honored
Conservation cowboy cooperation receives international recognition
The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act-funded Southern Cone Grasslands Alliance won the U.S. Forest Service's Wing's Across the Americas Award for International Cooperation. Partners in the Southern Cone of South America came together in 2005 to develop a large-scale, multinational initiative for grassland biodiversity conservation. One of the most valuable parts of the effort is an annual meeting of ranchers, agricultural extension agents, and grassland conservationists who promote ranching practices that help conserve biodiversity and improve the economic sustainability of ranching.
