Short-tailed Albatross Recovery Plan cover.

In the United States, the short-tailed albatross was actually listed under the Endangered Species Conservation Act of 1969 before the passage of the Endangered Species Act.  That listing was then incorporated under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, but because of an administrative error the species was listed as endangered throughout its range except for the US.  That error was corrected in 2000, and the species received protection throughout its range.  Work begun to identify actions to ensure the recovery of the species and in 2008 the Recovery Plan was finalized.
