  Recreation and Education Opportunities

Environmental Education
The refuge provides information and guidance to teachers and educational groups planning to conduct outdoor classroom activities. Throughout the refuge trails, auto tour route, and pullouts, interpretive panels describe wildlife, plants, and habitats.

Fishing is allowed from May 1 through October 31 in designated areas. All State of Oregon regulations apply.

There are two hunting seasons on William L. Finley Refuge: Archery Deer Season and Shotgun Deer Season. No elk hunting is allowed on the refuge. All hunters must check in and out of self-service hunter permit stations daily. Two self-service permit stations located on the refuge.

Along the auto tour route and along Woodpecker Loop Trail, there are numerous interpretive and education signs that describe habitats, historical land uses, migratory birds, elk and much more. Take the time to read these signs and learn about this unique area.

Wildlife Observation
William L. Finley Refuge has 12 miles of walking trails. The auto tour route on Finley Road and driving along Bruce Road are great ways to view geese and ducks during the wet winter months. Trails throughout the Snagboat Bend Unit take you through seasonally flooded habitat, along ponds, and to the edges of the Willametter River.
