About this Collection

This collection includes the Range-wide Indiana bat and northern long-eared bat survey guidelines along with supporting documents. The guidelines document provides the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's recommended guidance on survey methods and outlines additional reporting requirements for surveyors.

Section 7 Consultation The Endangered Species Act (ESA) directs all Federal agencies to work to conserve endangered and threatened species and to use their authorities to further the purposes of the Act. Section 7 of the Act, called "Interagency Cooperation," is the mechanism by which Federal agencies ensure the actions they take, including those they fund or authorize, do not jeopardize the existence of any listed species.

(a)(2) consultation obligations should coordinate with the federal action agency and the Service to determine if surveys for federally listed bat species are recommended. As a reminder, effects determinations for federally listed species are made by the federal action agency, except in cases for informal consultation when the federal agency has designated a non-federal representative.
