Advancing understanding of fish exposure to contaminants in sediment
Midwest Region, May 30, 2018
Print Friendly Version

Dr. Lisa Williams of the Michigan Ecological Services Field Office was one of the invited participants in a workshop on the assessment of fish and piscivore exposure to contaminants in sediment that was hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Mississippi, May 30-31. Dr. Williams was a co-presenter on the topic of fish natural history and implications for species selection for sampling. Over the course of the workshop, the participants from government, academia, industry and consulting firms reviewed the state of the knowledge and practice in assessing uptake of contaminants from sediment into fish and transfer of those contaminants to piscivores, including humans. The participants also developed recommendations for future work to improve these types of assessments.
